With more than 400 members, the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary is the largest hospital Auxiliary in the State of Alabama. The Thomas Hospital Auxiliary was organized on April 8, 1960 just five months before Thomas Hospital officially opened.

The first president of the Auxiliary was Mrs. Martha Hill. Twenty-one Auxiliary presidents later, the Auxiliary has become an integral part of the Thomas Hospital organization, providing thousands of unpaid hours of service every year and serving as the hospital's most effective ambassadors to the community.

The Thomas Hospital Auxiliary is a member of the Alabama Hospital Association Auxiliaries in District V. The Auxiliary has three types of memberships:

1) Active members who regularly participate in active service programs of the Auxiliary;
2) Associate members who are interested in
supporting the Auxiliary but are not required
to participate on a regular basis
3) Life members who make a one-time payment ofdues and who may or may not participate actively in the work of the Auxiliary.
