Sleep services

Opened in 1997, Thomas Hospital Sleep Services assists physicians in diagnosing and treating patients with complaints related to sleeping and waking functions. The center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Test results are sent to the referring doctor for consultation with the patient.

Patients usually spend the night in the center and leave in time for work the next morning. Rooms are comfortably furnished and include private baths. Testing involves painless, non-invasive electrodes attached to the scalp and skin. These monitor sleep stages, heart rate, respiration, leg and eye movements and blood oxygen levels.

The tests provide data to help diagnose:

  • Sleep apnea.
  • Insomnia.
  • Myoclonus (involuntary jerking of muscles).
  • Narcolepsy.
  • Gastro esophageal reflux.
