Thomas Hospital Foundation’s first project was to create a pediatric unit for the hospital.
In 2002, the Foundation concluded the hospital’s first capital campaign. “Hope for the Heart” raised more than $3 million for construction of the Heart Center, which brought open-heart surgery to Baldwin County. The Foundation donated more than $40,000 to fund KidGetFit and TeenGetFit weight management programs for children, teens and their families.
In 2008, the Foundation granted $340,000 for a new 5,500 square-foot Cardiac Rehab Center. In the same year, an $18,000 grant refurbished the Medical Intensive Care Unit waiting room.
Proceeds from the 1998 Grand Summer Ball were used to purchase an infant and child security system for the Women’s and Children’s Center. This system triggers a lockdown if infants are carried beyond certain doors in the hospital.
The Foundation granted $650,000 to purchase digital mammography equipment for Thomas Hospital and Thomas Medical Center.
Foundation purchases for Thomas Medical Center in Daphne also included $26,000 in surgical equipment and a $27,000 bone densitometer.
The Foundation raised $2 million toward construction of a new emergency department and patient rooms, which opened in March 2009.
In 2009, the Foundation raised $450,000 for a third catherization lab, dedicated to electrophysiology.
Most recently, the Foundation raised $450,000 for new high-definition laparoscopic surgical equipment.
