Achievements

  • Thomas Hospital Foundation’s first project was to create a pediatric unit for the hospital.
  • In 2002, the Foundation concluded the hospital’s first capital campaign. “Hope for the Heart” raised more than $3 million for construction of the Heart Center, which brought open-heart surgery to Baldwin County. The Foundation donated more than $40,000 to fund KidGetFit and TeenGetFit weight management programs for children, teens and their families.
  • In 2008, the Foundation granted $340,000 for a new 5,500 square-foot Cardiac Rehab Center. In the same year, an $18,000 grant refurbished the Medical Intensive Care Unit waiting room.
  • Proceeds from the 1998 Grand Summer Ball were used to purchase an infant and child security system for the Women’s and Children’s Center. This system triggers a lockdown if infants are carried beyond certain doors in the hospital.
  • The Foundation granted $650,000 to purchase digital mammography equipment for Thomas Hospital and Thomas Medical Center.
  • Foundation purchases for Thomas Medical Center in Daphne also included $26,000 in surgical equipment and a $27,000 bone densitometer.
  • The Foundation raised $2 million toward construction of a new emergency department and patient rooms, which opened in March 2009.
  • In 2009, the Foundation raised $450,000 for a third catherization lab, dedicated to electrophysiology.
  • Most recently, the Foundation raised $450,000 for new high-definition laparoscopic surgical equipment.
