The Thomas Hospital Heart Center has been named one of Thomson Reuters Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the nation for three years in a row. The center consists of two spacious open heart surgery rooms with support space, two fully-equipped operating rooms, a seven-bed surgical intensive care unit with a dedicated waiting room, and two state-of-the-art cardiovascular labs supported by an eleven-bed dedicated coronary-vascular recovery area.

Thomas Hospital offers a full-service heart program that includes elective and emergency coronary intervention care and full electrophysiology services.

Every effort is focused on patient outcomes, safety, comfort and security of the patient as well as their family. The staff is trained in the "Thomas Touch" philosophy emphasizing care, compassion and professionalism.

We assign a nurse to each family to escort them, answer questions and provide frequent updates on the patient's progress. Spacious waiting rooms, a comfortable ambient temperature, private conference rooms and proximity to dining areas promote feelings of well being.

Interventional Cardiology

Catheterization of peripheral and coronary arteries identifies problems of the circulatory system. The new Thomas Hospital Heart Center also allows us to treat blocked arteries using balloon angioplasty and stenting.

Open Heart Surgery

Open Heart Surgery incorporates the world's leading advances in cardiac treatment. Two brand new operating rooms feature a streamlined environment and ceiling-mounted equipment that allows nurses more time for direct patient care.

Recent innovations in lighting technology and flat-screen vascular monitoring are integrated into the design of each room. Our cardiopulmonary (heart/lung) bypass machine represents the state-of-the-art in open-heart technology. Miniaturized camera and scoping equipment provide access to peripheral veins through a much smaller incision and promote faster healing.

The open-heart surgical suites have their own dedicated satellite laboratory providing fast and accurate results. These operating rooms rank among the Gulf Coast's most technologically sophisticated systems for open heart surgery.

Recovery

Recovery in our 7-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit is enhanced by oversized rooms and high tech bedside monitoring. Large windows help our patients maintain time orientation, and a dedicated waiting room allow family members to rest in comfort and remain close by during their loved one's surgery and recovery.
