The goal of the CHF Clinic is to help patients maintain a level of good health in order to minimize hospital admissions. Cardiac Heart Failure patients are given infusions of medications such as Primacor, Demadex and Lasix.  

They are provided with written and verbal education about CHF including medication, diet, fluid restrictions and daily weights.  Patients are encouraged to participate in their care and ask questions.  Lab work is drawn as ordered during clinic visits, and abnormal results are reported and treated. Intravenous antibiotic therapy is provided seven days a week.

Services include outpatient IV antibiotics, blood transfusions, IV fluids for hydration, IVIG, and IV solumedrol infusions.  Other services include cortical stimulation tests and outpatient lumbar punctures that do not need to be done in radiology.

Orders for infusions and other services must be written by a doctor on staff at Thomas Hospital.  A history and physical examination are required prior to providing services.  For patients receiving blood products, we also need a statement that the patient (or family) understands the risks, benefits, and alternatives to the transfusion.

Wound care is not provided in the Infusion Clinic; however, this service is provided through the Thomas Hospital Physical Therapy Department.
